Holdem
If you think a player is chasing a marginal hand like a flush/straight draw or high pair with a weak kicker, you want them to call a moderate size bet on the turn thinking they will fold on the river if they don’t complete. This applies when you are bluffing as well as when you have a strong hand. Then on the River, if bet for value with a strong hand and bet larger if you are trying to bluff them into folding. And if you think you beat a hand that they are not going to fold, jam.
Question to Ask:
- What is their range? – start with buckets like “top pair” “middle pair” “flush draw” “straight draw” instead of “ace-ten suited or better”, narrow down on subsiquent streets.
- What portion of their range am I targeting?
What are their tendencies? - How do I exploit those tendencies?
